Smiths Falls teacher facing sex assault charges involving students

SMITHS FALLS, Ont. — Police laid several charges against a Smiths Falls Collegiate Institute teacher in relation to alleged inappropriate actions, involving “multiple students.”

Investigators have not released many details about the investigation that began on June 10.

In a release, the school board said it suspended the teacher when the investigation started.

On Wednesday, police wrapped up their investigation and arrested Blair Cathcart, 36, charging him with six counts of sexual assault, five counts of sexual interference and one charge of sexual exploitation.

Cathcart has been released from custody and has to abide by a number of conditions.

His next court appearance is August 22.
