Man in critical condition after trench collapse

OTTAWA – A 57-year-old man from Prescott-Russell was airlifted to hospital in critical condition Tuesday, after a trench collapsed on him.

The man was conducting repairs at a private residence, east of Rockland, when the accident happened.

Ottawa Fire Services was asked to send their Trench Rescue team. They were on scene and used specialized equipment to create “shoring,” which allowed the man to be freed from the trench.

The man was then airlifted to hospital in a helicopter.

He suffered major internal and leg injuries.
