Renovation planned for Ottawa Via Rail station includes raised platforms

OTTAWA – A major renovation project is planned to celebrate 50 years of the Ottawa train station.
Ottawa South MP David McGuinty joined Via Rail CEO Yves Desjardins-Siciliano at the station Thursday morning to announce the $20 million renovation.
The renovations include raised, heated platforms to allow level boarding, as well as the addition of an elevator for accessibility.
Meantime, an additional $1.7 million will be spent on fixing up the roof and some building systems.
The renovations are happening over the next 12 months, with completion expected in the the fall of 2017.
The station was designated a heritage building in 1996, 30 years after it opened. In 2000, it was named one of the top 500 buildings produced in Canada in the last millennium.
