PSAC to hold noon-hour protest

OTTAWA — The largest union representing federal workers launches a major campaign today to remind to demand the Prime Minister “stop with the tricks and treat us with respect.”

The Public Service Alliance of Canada will hold a rally in front of the Prime Minister’s office at noon.

PSAC says there are several issues that need urgent attention — including an announcement late last week to move an immigration processing centre in central Alberta.

“It employs probably 200 folks…about five per cent of the community works there,” Robyn Benson, president of PSAC, told The Carol Anne Meehan Show on 1310 NEWS. “(The government) just arbitrarily decided to move that processing centre to Edmonton, which is an hour-plus away drive for all of those employees, should they continue to work, with no consultation.”

Benson says contract talks have dragged on for two years — and the tone since the election last October has changed.
