Two separate fires leave two injured

OTTAWA — An apartment resident has been badly injured after a fire in Vanier — one of two in the capital, Monday night.

A bystander saw flames in a second-floor apartment in a building on Blake Blvd., around 5:45 p.m. Ottawa Fire crews arrived to find one person with severe injuries.

The apartment’s occupant was rushed to hospital while firefighters quickly knocked down the fire. Damage is estimated at $50,000.

A second fire, a few hours later, sent firefighters to a home near Pinecrest.

Firefighters were called to the home on Parkway Drive, around 10 p.m., and arrived to find the home’s attic and roof fully engulfed.

One person was treated for minor smoke inhalation.

The fire has been put out, but not before it caused $450,000 in damage.

Investigators are still looking into the causes of both fires.
