OTTAWA — More than a hundred very special children from the capital are in for a whirlwind day at Walt Disney World in Florida, thanks to some dedicated volunteers.
Dreams Take Flight left the Ottawa airport early Wednesday morning, to spend the day at the Magic Kingdom.
“You can feel the excitement in the air,” said Alex Black, morning news anchor, 1310 NEWS. She’s one of the volunteers on board for the flight.
“None of these children have ever been to Disney before, so this really is a dream trip,” said Black.
Children between the ages of 6 and 12 with serious physical, medical and/or social challenges are nominated by various agencies around the capital. Up to 125 children are chosen each year.
More than 80 volunteers accompany the children on the trip, which comes at no cost to the children’s families.
The flight left Ottawa around 5:30 a.m.; the children’s return flight will arrive back in Ottawa around midnight.
