Gas prices up by a nickel; another hike expected tonight

OTTAWA — Gas prices in the capital went up by about five cents, overnight, with another hike expected for the weekend.

Many Ottawa gas stations were selling regular self-serve gasoline for 103.9 cents a litre, early Friday morning.

The surge in gas prices came after oil prices spiked to a 15-month high, earlier in the week, as investors worried about a planned cut in oil production by OPEC.

Analysts expect another price hike of two to three cents a litre is coming at 12:01 a.m., Saturday.
