Ottawa Fire Services reminding public to stay on scene when calling 911

OTTAWA – Ottawa Fire Services has a reminder for the public regarding 911 calls.

“When calling 911 please remain on scene.”

The reminder comes after crews were called to Dick Bell Park at 3259 Carling Avenue for a possible water rescue.

Fire tells 1310 NEWS, they arrived on scene to find that paraskiiers in the area did not appear in distress, but couldn’t find the 911 caller(s).

911 tips from Ottawa Fire Services:

-Call 911 as soon as it is safe to do so.
-It is important that the caller remain on the scene.
-If the area is unsafe, the caller should relocate to a safe area and wait for first responders there.
-Remember, you are our eyes and ears to the emergency when you call 911. Our Dispatch staff will ask questions to help best locate the incident and assess the conditions surrounding the emergency. We encourage you to remain calm, answer the Dispatcher’s questions and to stay on the line until advised to hang up.
