OPP cautioning snowmobilers

A spike in the number of snowmobile-related deaths has provincial police and Ontario’s snowmobile clubs urging riders to be more cautious.

So far this winter, 13 people have been killed in snowmobile-related incidents, compared to eight at this time last winter.

Riding on unsafe ice, speeding, driver inattention and alcohol use have all been cited as factors in fatal snowmobile accidents.

Police are also asking family members to have the courage to speak up, if they’re concerned about someone’s unsafe behaviour on a snowmobile.
