Ottawa in for big weekend melt, flooding

OTTAWA – It might be a good idea to dig out your rubber boots before the weekend.
The cool temperatures are coming to an end, at least for the long weekend, which means melting snowbanks and flooding.
Luc Gagne, director of road services, says crews will be keeping an eye on some hot spots across the city that could start to flood, including bottoms of severe hills or spots areas near waterways.
“A lot of times, water will escape very well underneath the snow and reach a catch basin with no issues, but there are other issues where they’re simply blocked with ice or a heavy amount of snow,” Gagne told 1310 NEWS.
He adds that you can always help the city out by looking for a yellow “T” painted on the road.
That indicates a catch basin, and removing any leftover snow and ice from it helps prevent localized flooding.
