Jonathan Pitre gearing up for second stem cell transplant

OTTAWA – A local teen is back in hospital in the United States.

Jonathan Pitre, 16, is at the Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital awaiting a second stem cell transplant.

Doctors hope the second attempt at a transplant from his mother, Tina Boileau, will help to alleviate symptoms of the painful skin disorder EB Simplex, which causes painful blisters all over his body.

Pitre went through his first transplant last fall, and while it failed to take, his doctor has said that second transplants often have a higher success rate.

Tina joins Mark Sutcliffe on Ottawa Today Friday at 12:30 p.m.
