OTTAWA – Tina Boileau has posted some very good news about her son Jonathan Pitre!
In a post on Facebook, Pitre’s mother says the latest test results show that Jonathan is officially growing her white blood cells.
The tests show that Jonathan’s cells are 100 percent from Tina, however, she says he will have to grow some of his own cells back.
Pitre is being treated at the Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital in the United States, where he recently underwent a second stem cell transplant from Tina, to alleviate the symptoms of his condition.
Jonathan suffers from Epidermolysis bullosa simplex, a rare skin condition with no cure that leaves painful blisters and sores all over his body.
Pitre went through his first transplant last fall, and while it failed to take, his doctor has said that second transplants often have a higher success rate.
