Start of fall in ‘Hottawa’ could break records

OTTAWA — Hot and humid weather is expected to continue into the first week of fall, and this weekend could see record-breaking heat.
The temperatures is expected to reach 30 degrees Saturday and Sunday — which, according to Environment Canada, would break daily records of 28 degrees Celsius set in 1961 and in 2010.
The forecast heat this weekend was enough to prompt Ottawa Public Health and the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit to issue heat warnings, urging residents to be vigilant against heat stroke, heat exhaustion and dehydration.
More warm weather is forecast into Monday and Tuesday, but the summer-like temperatures likely won’t last much beyond that.
“(In) October, I think we’re probably going to have a little bit of a chilly snap in the beginning of the month,” said John Wilson, 1310 NEWS weather specialist.
“October may…get warm in the middle and then November looks a little chillier than average,” said Wilson.
As far as precipitation amounts go, Wilson expects slightly above-average numbers — much like the rest of the year has seen.
