OTTAWA — An Ottawa man is facing charges in connection with a series of bank robberies.
The Robbery Unit had been investigating robberies on September 7 in the 1600 block of Heron Road, September 13 on Main Street, and September 25 in the 3700 block of Strandherd Drive.
In each case, a male suspect entered the bank while wearing a disguise, and jumped behind the counter, then fled with cash.
No weapon was seen, and there were no injuries.
On October 3, at 1:15 pm, a suspect entered a bank in the 700 block of March Road.
He jumped over the counter and demanded cash, and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
A short time later, a police officer saw a vehicle travelling eastbound on Hwy. 417 and followed it off the highway. When an attempt was made to stop the vehicle, the vehicle fled. By this point, the officer had already identified the driver and did not engage in a pursuit. The vehicle was found abandoned near the end of Churchill Avenue, near Hwy. 417. The suspect was found in a nearby parking garage by front line and canine officers.
He was treated for a minor dog bite injury, and then released from hospital.
Yassin Khadr, 38, of Ottawa, is charged with the following offences in relation to the four robberies:
Twelve counts of robbery
Four counts of wearing a disguise
Five counts of breach of recognizance
Fail to Stop for Police
