A happier Thanksgiving season for butterfly child Jonathan Pitre

OTTAWA – This Thanksgiving, Ottawa’s butterfly child Jonathan Pitre is expressing his thankfulness for how his health has improved over the last year.

Thanksgiving 2016 was a rough time for him and his family, overshadowed by the news that his first stem cell transplant had failed.

But now, a year later, the success of his second transplant is repairing his blistered skin more than he’s ever seen before.

In a phone interview with Postmedia Friday, Pitre said “I’m thankful just to be alive and kicking … and it’s nice to be going up the stream, feeling better.”

Since has last surgery in April, the 17-year-old Russell teen has been in hospital all but two days.

But, with more and more improvements, it’s looking like he could be out of the Minnesota Children’s Hospital soon.
