OTTAWA — The triple-murder trial of Basil Borutski has heard more chilling testimony from the family of the victims — this time, the son of Nathalie Warmerdam, describing his mother’s final terrifying moments.
Adrian Warmerdam was lying on the couch when he heard his mother scream, according to Postmedia. At first thinking she had been startled by a spider, he got up when the screaming continued. He told the court his mother ran toward him as a man in a full-brimmed hat rounded the corner behind her, aiming a shotgun.
As Adrian Warmerdam ran outside, he heard a single gunshot.
Warmerdam’s son is the latest family member of a victim to testify. Last week, court heard from Eva Kuzyk, whose sister Anastasia was the third woman killed on September 22, 2015.
“She ran from the house and flagged down a road crew, where she made a 911 call,” Aedan Helmer, Postmedia reporter, told Ottawa Today with Mark Sutcliffe. “Just listening to the audio of that call is pretty difficult.”
Borutski is also accused of killing Carol Culleton, as part of a one-day revenge-fuelled rampage through the Ottawa Valley.
The trial continues.
