Labour rally planned for La Cité Collégiale

OTTAWA — Local labour leaders will hold a barbecue and rally today in support of staff and students affected by the Ontario college strike.

The Ottawa and District Labour Council is organizing the rally, at La Cité Collégiale, beginning at 12:30 p.m., Friday. Students are expected to rally around that time to urge the colleges to return to negotiations and reach a deal with the unions.

“I think what we’re seeing is the students’ frustration and that’s more than understandable,” said Sean McKenny, president of the Ottawa and District Labour Council, in a news release. “They’ve paid and continue to pay for something they’re not receiving. How fair is that?”

Staff at Ontario’s 24 public colleges have been on strike since Monday, October 16.
