Students to rally as college strike drags on

TORONTO — A student advocacy group is holding a rally today at Queen’s Park as a strike by college faculty continues for a third week.

The College Student Alliance says faculty are represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union and colleges are represented by the College Employers Council, but students have no say.

More than 500-thousand students have been affected since about 12-thousand faculty and staff at Ontario’s 24 colleges went on strike on October 16th.

The student alliance says it’s in no one’s best interest for the government to intervene with back-to-work legislation because if a deal isn’t reached, a strike could happen next year, too.
