The first steps toward Olympic glory

OTTAWA — All eyes are expected to be on Team Homan, as Roar of the Rings is set to kick off at the Canadian Tire Centre this weekend.
It’s a homecoming for Kanata’s Rachel Homan, who can book her first trip to the Olympic Games if she can win this tournament.
Olympic Champion Joan McCusker says this is set to be the most pressure-filled week of Homan’s curling career, but she thinks the team will rise to the occasion.
“I think a big factor for Team Homan is how comfortable it gets with the ice conditions very early in the event,” explains McCusker.
“That’s their track record: when they catch onto the ice and get comfotable very fast, they’re virtually unbeatable.”
Homan has an impressive resume, inclduing first place finishes at the Canadian Juniors Championships, the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the Contenental Cup of Curling and most recently the 2017 World Women’s Curling Championship.
The one place you can argue that she and her team have struggled is in Olympic qualifying, where they’re just 4-4 all-time.
Play gets underway for both men’s and women’s teams Saturday afternoon at the CTC.
The final games will be played on December 10.
