Ottawa's Butterfly Child has passed away.

According to the Ottawa Citizen, Jonathan Pitre, 17, died on Wednesday from complications from septic shock.

His mother was by his side.  “I can't imagine my life without him,” Tina Boileau told the paper.

Jonathan was admitted to hospital this past Friday after spiking a fever. He had been battling an antibiotic-resistant skin infection for three weeks.

Jonathan's blood pressure dropped over the weekend, and on Monday, his condition worsened.

The paper said his breathing became laboured and doctors couldn't stop the advancing sepsis.

At that point, Jonathan was admitted to the intensive care unit, but his condition continued to deteriorate.

Jonathan passed away at 8:28 p.m. Wednesday.

“He is no longer suffering and that's what he wanted,” Tina told the paper. “That's what I wanted.”

Tina is arranging to have Jonathan's body brought back to Ottawa for a small, private funeral.

Jonathan was born with Epidermolysis bullosa, a blistering skin condition, and one of the most painful conditions known to modern medicine today.
