Ottawa Catholic School Board trustee and former chairperson Kathy Ablett has died.

Ablett died Saturday, the school board announced. A cause of death was not revealed.

Ablett was the trustee for Zone 9, River and Capital wards. She served on the Ottawa Catholic School Board for 27 years.

“Trustee Ablett's fierce commitment to her role as Trustee has been a cornerstone of the Ottawa Catholic School Board for decades,” Elaine McMahon, Ottawa Catholic School Board chairperson, said in a news release. “We have appreciated her personal dedication to Catholic education over the years. She was a dear friend who will be missed.”

Ablett was first elected to the Ottawa Roman Catholic Separate School Board from 1988 to 1997 and returned in 2000 to the amalgamated OCSB. She served as the board's vice-chairperson in 2005, and as chairperson in 2006 and 2007.

Ablett was also a registered nurse, active in family practice medicine.
