Carleton University deemed safe after twitter user made terror threat

Students and staff of Carleton University woke up to shocking tweets that threatened their lives.

A twitter user threatened to “take many lives” at Carleton, Monday morning.

Police said the initial investigation revealed that the threats are “not credible and that there is no risk to public safety.”

In a statement released this morning Carleton University said that police are investigating the incident.

The Department of University Safety is aware of the current threats, according to a media release sent by the Ottawa Police Service.

 

Sergeant Steven Desjourdy told 1310NEWS  “(the investigation) is in the initial stages, and once again we're looking at all options. Is this spoofing? Does this person have any intentions? Regardless there's an open active investigation and we want to get to the bottom of this.” He added that if anybody hears or sees anything suspicious, to call 9-1-1 and campus security immediately.

The investigation continues, and it now involves national and international intelligence agencies.
