A purse theft at the Motel Ritz on Boulevard Gréber near Pointe-Gatineau lead to the deployment of the police's tactical unit.

Police officials said the victim of the theft informed the motel's clerk of the crime, which lead to the clerk attempting to get the purse back. But when the clerk entered the suspect's motel room, he told police he couldn't find the purse or her money, only what he believed to be a gun.

“We mobilized the SWAT team unit to take the first perimeter, the contention, close to the room,” said Lieutenant J.F. Beauchamp.

The initial call came in just before 9 a.m., Thursday.

Gatineau Police deployed tactical units to the motel after being informed the suspect may have a gun. Once they stormed the room, they only found an imitation firearm.

A police investigator was able to identify a vehicle of interest, which they tracked to a nearby McDonalds. Upon police arrival, they identified the suspect and arrested him without incident.

Police said the suspect is co-operating with the investigation.

The suspect is facing a charge of theft under $5,000.
