Stittsville medical clinic cleared to resume performing most minor procedures

The Stittsville medical clinic where thousands of patients may have been exposed to hepatitis and HIV from dirty medical equipment, has been cleared to perform almost all minor medical procedures.
Ottawa Public Health confirms the Main Street Family Medical Centre was cleared on July 12 to resume all minor procedures, except for giving stitches.
Associate Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Geneviève Cadieux, says suturing has not yet resumed because the clinic has not yet acquired single-use disposable needle-drivers (also known as needle holders). Needle drivers are the instrument necessary to grab and hold the suturing needle.
The clinic was subjected to several inspections before the permissions for the procedures was given, and will be re-inspected once it has acquired the needle drivers.
A complaint in April about general cleanliness ended with a citations for dirty medical equipment.
Some 4, 600 patients will be alerted by letter to get tested for Hepatitis A , Hepatitis C, and HIV, OPH says it has no information that an infection has resulted from the exposure
