Extrication needed in vehicle rollover on Woodroffe Avenue

By Mike Vlasveld

Ottawa Paramedics say a woman is in hospital with just minor injuries after being removed from an overturned vehicle on Woodroffe Avenue at Iris Street.

Ottawa police officers responded to the crash at 12:24 p.m., Friday.

Fire crews were called to the scene to find a woman trapped inside the car.

They removed the vehicle's windshield and the driver was extricated at 12:36 p.m.

She was the only person inside the car.

If you are involved in a collision and find yourself trapped, Ottawa Fire Services reminds you to call 911 if you are able to, tell the dispatcher that you are trapped in your vehicle, answer their questions as best as you can and follow their instructions.

OFS says if you are involved in a collision and your airbags have deployed, there will likely be a bit of powder released in the vehicle. This powder is often mistaken as smoke, but it is normal and not toxic. It may slightly irritate your eyes initially but tear drops usually help rinse the irritant away.

If you are trapped in a vehicle after a collision, keep your seatbelt on until firefighters arrive, especially if you happen to be upside down. You don't want to fall and further injure yourself or someone else who is in the vehicle with you.
