TOP 10 OF 2018: #6 April ice storm levels capital region

Several hours of freezing rain coated parts of the capital region in ice on April 16, snapping hydro poles and turning streets into skating rinks.

Thousands of homes and businesses in Ottawa and eastern Ontario lost power.

A day later, schools remained closed, and thousands were still without power.

Hydro Ottawa reported roughly 43,000 customers without power.
