Kanata residents feeling left in the dark about future of the Kanata Lakes Golf and Country Club

By Jeff Slack

Residents living around the Kanata Lakes Golf and Country Club are asking what is happening to the golf course, after witnessing Clublink chopping down trees and digging up soil.

Clublink had announced on January 24 that it would be surveying the area, however since that meeting members have felt left in the dark.

“[Clublink] did absolutely no information bulletin to the community as to what they were doing and why they were doing it,” Neil Thomson, President of the Kanata Beaverbrook Community Association, told 1310 NEWS' The Rick Gibbons show.

Clublink is within its legal right to remove dead trees from its property, but Thomson believes the company's choice to start digging and testing soil is an intimidation tactic.

“Some of the residents went out to talk to the professional surveyers and they said, 'don't get mad at us, but we are laying out a road.' “

Thomson expressed he's seeing a communication malfunction with both the city and Clublink relaying information to the community.

“At this point, unfortunately, we are on the back of the camel and we aren't getting the information we would like to have,” said Thomson.

There's also uncertainty surrounding the 40 per cent agreement, as Thomson was informed by lawyers that if there is a long enough delay it could be considered a default and Clublink would be free to develop.
