Hydro scam texts making the rounds in Ottawa

Hydro Ottawa says it does not text customers about their bills, after a flurry of scam texts this weekend claimed the recipients were in for a refund.

One of the texts reads, “Hydro Ottawa sent you a refund due an issue whit (sic) our payment system,” and tells the recipient to click a link.

Hydro Ottawa said the texts are not from them, and urged anyone receiving the scam messages to report them immediately to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501, or to call Hydro Ottawa at 613-738-6400 to verify the legitimacy.

Hydro officials remind customers that they do not text about billing matters.
