Complaint about driver on 416 leads to pair of arrests

A routine traffic stop in Prescott turned up large amounts of stolen items including tools, gift cards and unmarked cigarettes.
Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to a complaint about a possible impaired driver in the southbound lanes of Highway 416 on Sunday, March 10, around 6:30 p.m.
The vehicle was intercepted in Prescott and after an investigation by a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) officer, the driver was arrested for impaired operation by a drug.
Further investigation then revealed large amounts of stolen items inside the suspect's vehicle. The vehicle, a silver passenger sedan, was seized and the driver and passenger were arrested.
Miodrag Kovacic, 41, of East York, was charged with:
- Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs CC 320.14(1)(a)
- Fail to Comply with Recognizance CC 145(3)
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000 CC 354(1)(a)
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 CC 354(1)(a)
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 CC 354(1)(a)
- Driving Motor Vehicle with open container of liquor LLA 32(1)
Renato Gaudino, 53, of York, was charged with:
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 CC 354(1)(a)
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 CC 354(1)(a)
- Possess unmarked cigarettes TTA 29(2)
- Having liquor in open container LLA 31(2)
- Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon CC 94
- Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition CC 92(2)
- Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited device or ammunition CC 94
- Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition CC 92(2)
