17 arrested after many retail theft complaints from downtown business

Over a dozen people are facing criminal charges after police targeted their efforts along a strip of the downtown core for retail theft.

A business was reporting several incidents of theft at its store on Rideau Street, that are impacting its bottom line. Between July 12 to 18, police went to the area to address the concerns.

They worked with the business’ loss prevention employee, and conducted their enforcement at various times throughout the week.

As a result, police arrested 17 people in the investigation. One search warrant was executed, seven provincial notices were issues and 17 criminal charges were laid.

“Businesses are encouraged to continue reporting theft-related incidents and suspicious activity to police,” police said in the release.
