Man arrested following rash of vehicle thefts in South Glengarry

A 31-year-old Cornwall man is facing 39 offences related to a number of vehicle thefts in South Glengarry.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a theft in progress on Page Drive in South Glengarry on July 3, at 3:36 a.m. A home owner had confronted a suspect as he was attempting to remove items from a vehicle. The culprit fled from the scene. 

OPP officers located the accused a short distance away. Further investigation revealed the man was responsible for additional thefts in the area and the thefts from the previous evening.

Overnight June 30-July 1, several unlocked vehicles were entered as they were parked at residences in Bayview Estate area (Samuel Street, Saphire Street, Vivian Street and Wendy Street) in South Glengarry. Cash, wallets, tools and fishing gear were stolen.

Jason Jenkins was arrested and charged with;

  • Trespassing by Night (17 counts)
  • Theft Under $5,000 from Motor vehicle (15 counts)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime (five counts)
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Mischief Under $5,000

He was held in custody pending an appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall.
