Ottawa soccer coach accused of sexually assaulting teen girl

By Mike Vlasveld

The Ottawa Police Service's Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section has charged a 38-year-old local soccer coach after an investigation into incidents involving one of his players.

A 17-year-old girl told police, on April 25, that her soccer coach had sexually assaulted her on two separate occasions in 2014.

James (Jimmy) Zito, of Ottawa, has been charged with:

  • Sexual assault (two counts)
  • Sexual Exploitation

He is scheduled to be in court Friday.

The OPS says Zito is a well known soccer coach, having coached numerous teams in the Ottawa community. Investigators believe that there may be other victims and are asking them to contact police.
