Pair of suspects arrested in Hull Marina robbery and kidnapping

By Mike Vlasveld

Gatineau police have two men in their early twenties in custody following an early morning robbery and kidnapping at Marina de Hull.

Officers say, around 3:30 a.m. on July 28, two hooded suspects with guns approached two people heading for their vehicle. The suspects demanded that the victims get in their vehicle and drive to a parking lot near St. Joseph Boulevard, where they forced the victims into the trunk of the vehicle while forcing them to give up bank cards and personal identification numbers (PINs).

Police say the suspects left the parking lot with one of the victims still in the trunk. On the way to the Galeries de Hull, the victim was able to escape the trunk and called Gatineau police. The car and the second victim are left at the Galeries de Hull where the suspects got out of the vehicle and ran.

One of the suspects was found by the police and arrested.

Daniel Bolongo Kalonji, 20, appeared in court on July 29 and is currently detained on the following counts:

  • Wearing disguise for criminal purposes
  • Robbery

The second suspect was arrested by the intervention group Wednesday, August 14.

Dieu Donné Pinganayi Wakubela, 22, will appear in court Thursday, on the same charges as Kalonji, as well as one count of fraud.

The SPVG is reassuring the public that this is a crime of opportunity and is an isolated event.
