Protesters blocked a major bridge, downtown, in an effort to raise awareness for what they call an “urgent and ecological crisis,” Friday.
Members of Extinction Rebellion blocked the Laurier Avenue bridge, between Nicholas and Elgin, in front of City Hall and Confederation Park.
“We are working to be like a fire alarm is to a house that is on fire,” participant Adam Hortop said. “My hope is that the general population realizes that the disruptions that we are fighting to avoid are far worse than the traffic disruptions that we would cause.”
Speaking before the event, organizers asked that anyone taking part pay attention to police to help avoid being arrested.
