City of Gatineau follows Ottawa in suspending most street parking by-laws

By Mike Vlasveld

The City of Gatineau says unlimited parking is now permitted on its streets, day and night, regardless of the signs.

There are a few by-laws remaining in place for the following situations:

  • Pay parking on the street and in parking lots (parking meters);
  • Handicap accessible parking spots;
  • No stopping zones;
  • Prohibited parking zones;
  • Within five metres of a fire hydrant, stop sign or intersection
  • Areas reserved for emergency vehicles; and
  • On sidewalks, shoulders and curbs.

The city says it is taking these measures to help those self-isolating, in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
