Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is working with Monfort Hospital to open a second COVID-19 care clinic, which will serve the east side of the city.
Like the first care clinic that opened on Moodie Drive earlier in the week, this clinic’s primary function will be to provide treatment for people with symptoms of respiratory illness — cough, fever and cold-like symptoms — that can't be managed at home. Essentially, it will help divert patient volumes from local hospital emergency departments.
It's located in the former St. Patrick Intermediate School, at 1485 Heron Road, and will open for the first time at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 9.
It will only be open until 2 p.m. on its first day, but regular clinic hours will then be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday — including on holidays.
OPH says this clinic will be equipped to do basic diagnostic tests, such as chest X-rays and lab tests. It will offer services in both English and French to help Ottawa-area patients get the care they need.
The health agency does note that access to the clinic is not ideal for people with reduced mobility.
The site will be operated by staff and physicians from Hôpital Montfort, as well as primary care physicians and pediatricians from our community.
Ottawa residents who only need to be tested for COVID-19 should continue to go to the assessment centre at Brewer Arena.
Residents in Ottawa's west side who need treatment for their symptoms of respiratory illness are asked to go to the COVID-19 Care Clinic in Bells Corners, at the former D. A. Moodie Intermediate School, in order to limit travels within the city. Both clinics have the same schedule.
