GoFundMe launched for man who ‘lost everything’ in Kars fire

By Mike Vlasveld

A friend of a man who's house was destroyed by fire in Kars has created a GoFundMe, with a goal of raising $30,000.

Kristina Iskander writes that the man, only identified as Ernie, lost everything.

“This guy helped me and family friends with anything he could. He needs help to get his life back in order. It’s a bad time with [COVID-19] and everything but we need to help him out. He lost his cat which had been with him for over 12 years,” says Iskander.

She explains that the only things Ernie has left from the house are the clothes he was wearing that day.

Ernie and his family are living in a hotel room for the next couple days, according to Iskander, “but he is eager to go home and start clearing the rubble and building it back from the ground up.”

There are also animals on the property which still need food and water. Iskander says Ernie has not abandoned his animals, but it's costing him more money to care for them.
