H&M Rideau Street location now open to the public

By Dani-Elle Dubé

Popular fashion brand H&M has reopened select stores in Ontario, including its Rideau Centre location.

The location was opened to the public as of Thursday, the company said in a statement.

However, the shopping experience will be different as the store have implemented extra health and safety precautions and measures like:

  • Deep cleaning; increased frequency of cleaning for high touch point areas throughout the day
  • Prioritizing card payments
  • Fitting room closures
  • Pausing garment collecting
  • PPE for all the store employees
  • Plexiglass barriers at our cashpoints
  • All returns will be held for 24 hours. After the 24 hours the items will then be placed back on the sales floor. For example, all items returned on Monday will not be placed on the sales floor until Wednesday morning
  • Customers and H&M employees will all maintain 6 feet distance throughout the store with floor stickers and audio notes to remind everyone

The chain says its Rideau Street store is able to open because it has street entrance.

The Ontario said this week that retail stores with street entrances were allowed to open to the public.

The store will also be operating at reduced hours from Monday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Shoppers with COVID-19 symptoms are asked not shop at the store and instead  stay home and instead are directed to the retailer's website.

Other Ontario locations reopening include:

  • Toronto Eaton Centre; Toronto, Ontario
  • Vaughan Mills Centre; Vaughan, Ontario
  • Bloor Street; Toronto, Ontario
  • Queen Street West; Toronto, Ontario
  • Heartland Town Centre; Mississauga, Ontario
  • Rideau Centre; Ottawa, Ontario

H&M is following in the footsteps of TJX-owned stores Winners, Marshalls and Homesense who announced they were reopening its trio of stores to the public Wednesday in Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia.

Rideau Centre itself remains closed.
