It seems Nepean was the right place to buy a lottery ticket recently, as two jackpots have now been claimed by residents in the Ottawa suburb, totalling $40-million.
Garry Comber, a 74-year-old Nepean retiree matched all seven of his Lotto Max numbers on June 9 to take the draw's top prize.
He purchased his ticket on the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation's (OLG) online gaming site PlayOLG.ca, and discovered his win when he received an email from OLG the morning after the draw.
“When I saw the email, I wasn’t sure how to handle it,” said Comber. “I went upstairs to tell my wife we had just won $25-million and she said, 'Are you serious?'”
Comber and his wife then shared the news with their family.
“They were gob-smacked, completely shocked with this news,” he said. “This has been a wonderful, overwhelming and life-changing experience.”
Comber is planning to take some time to digest the win and wants to talk it through with some trusted professional advisors.
“We’re not doing anything rash or making any rushed decisions as we adjust to our new reality,” he said. “Winning this kind of money has been a real shock, but it gives me the opportunity to help my children and grandchildren in many ways.”
About a month before Comber's winning draw, another Nepean man, Kenneth Donald won a Lotto Max jackpot of $15-million.
