Three of four school boards in Ottawa area release fall start date

By OttawaMatters Staff

The calendar for the 2020-2021 school year for the Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) has been approved by the Ministry of Education, which means a start date has been given.

Students in the OCSB will be returning to their studies on September 3 but it's not known whether students will be learning in-class or at home or a mix of both.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the province has told school boards to prepare for three possible scenarios for the fall: full-time in-class learning, a hybrid of in-class and at-home learning, and full-time online learning.

According to the board's website, educators and support staff will be back in schools the week of August 31 until September 2 to finalize pandemic health and safety measures.

The Ottawa Catholic School Board said it would prefer all students to return to class, five days a week, with enhanced cleaning and hygiene.

Ottawa's French Catholic school board will also start on September 3, but the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario and the Upper Canada District School Board will start on September 4.

No start date has been released by the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board.
