Ottawa IT consultant celebrating $100K lottery win

A 58-year-old Ottawa man is still in shock after collecting his $100,000 cheque.

Joseph Thoo matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the August 4 Lotto Max draw to win.

“I checked my tickets and the last one was a winner,” he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. “I scanned the ticket four or five times — I couldn’t believe it.”

The IT consultant hasn’t told anyone except the store owner about his win.

“I’m a private person. I will help people financially instead of telling them that I won,” Thoo smiled.

The father of two plans to pay some bills, help his daughter who is working on her master’s degree and invest the rest of the winnings.

He would also like to travel.

“I was born in Malaysia and would love to go back and visit,” said Thoo. “I’m still shocked — it hasn’t really hit me yet. It feels good though, it’s a pleasant feeling.”

The winning ticket was purchased at St. Charles Food Mart on St. Charles Street in Vanier.
