OPP investigating fatal two-vehicle collision just west of Cobden

One person is dead and another seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 41, near Mountain Road, just west of Cobden.

Ontario Provincial Police officers, Renfrew County paramedics, and firefighters from the North Algona-Wilberforce and Bonnechere Valley Fire Departments were called to the scene of the incident on Tuesday, September 1, just before 5 p.m.
 
Police say a southbound car collided with a northbound van on a curve in the roadway. Firefighters worked to cut both drivers from the wreckage. 

The driver, and lone occupant, of the car was taken to hospital by land ambulance with life-threatening injuries and later died in hospital. 

A 31-year-old Pembroke women, who was driving the van, was flown to an Ottawa-area hospital. Two school-aged children in the van were not injured.
 
The deceased has been identified as Paula Bashford, 33, of Bonnechere Valley Township. 
 
A section of Highway 41, between Walsh Road and Mountain Road, was closed until about 1 a.m. on September 2. 

An OPP Collision Reconstructionist and Technical Collision Investigator are assisting with the investigation and a post mortem examination will be conducted.
