Provincial police officers are out ensuring the roads are safe for the final hurrah of summer.
Upper Ottawa Valley OPP made two notable stops on Saturday, both with serious consequences.
On Doran Road in Laurentian, OPP stopped a vehicle travelling at a speed of 142 km/h in an 80 zone.
The 30-year-old male driver was charged with stunt driving. His vehicle was impounded for 14 days and his licence was suspended for 30 days.
On Biesenthal Road in Petawawa, officers stopped a speeding driver. During the stop they learned the driver held a G2 licence and did not have valid insurance. The driver was charged and is scheduled to appear in court.
But it’s not only speed that OPP have their eyes on. RIDE programs are being set up across the region to ensure that everyone is driving sober.
“Open alcohol is not acceptable, and charges will always be laid,” officers said on X.
