Kingston police say they have charged a 21-year-old man with attempted murder for allegedly beating his roommate.
They say on August 29 at 10:30 p.m. the man got into an argument with two of his roommates, one man and one woman.
Police allege Thomas Neumann then attacked both of his roommates with, quote, “weapons of opportunity.''
They say he viciously beat the woman until the other roommate used his body to shield the victim from the repeated blows, and was able to call 9-1-1 for help.
Paramedics transported the female victim to Kingston General Hospital in critical condition with life threatening injuries.
During the initial investigation conducted at the scene, officers say the accused obstructed police by providing a false name. Neumann was also found to be in breach of multiple court imposed conditions of his Judicial Release Order. For these offences, the accused was arrested, charged, and held in custody.
Police say the continued investigation into the events of that night led officers to believe the accused had committed the additional offences of attempted murder, assault with a weapon, and uttering threats to cause death.
On September 2, Neumann was additionally charged with attempted murder, assault with a weapon, and uttering threats to cause death. He has been held in custody.
