Homegrown Big Rig Brewery and Restaurant expanding; opening two new locations during pandemic

By Dani-Elle Dubé

Big Rig Brewery, a restaurant and brewery that began in Ottawa and was started and co-owned by now-retired Ottawa Senator’s defence man Chris Phillips, is expanding to the GTA.

The homegrown business, which started in 2012, was sold to Quebec company Foodtastic Inc. last year, a Montreal-based franchising firm; the company announced its expansion to two other locations in the province last week.

“Although the restaurant industry is facing a very uncertain future, Foodtastic is continuing its pursuit to expand its current restaurant system,’ the company said in a statement. “We realise that the next several months will be challenged for our dining room concepts but believe with the continued help from the government, landlords, and suppliers we will be able to support our franchisees through these difficult times”

The new location will be at 5860 Mavis in Mississauga.

Another restaurant is also planned to open in Richmond Hill this month.
