Highway 417 to fully close at Nicholas Street, Saturday into Sunday

A section of Highway 417 will close in both directions this weekend, which is expected to create significant traffic issues.

The roadway will be shut down between 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, and 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 4. The eastbound on- ramps at Nicholas Street and Metcalfe Street will also close, but all other ramps in the area will remain open.

Lane reductions and ramp closures are scheduled to start at 5 p.m. on Saturday, with the full closure of Highway 417 scheduled to be in place by 6 p.m.

The Highway 417 exit ramp at Nicholas closed on Wednesday.

With the new bridge now in place, the closures are required to demolish the old structure as part of the MTO’s Nicholas Street underpass replacement.

The City of Ottawa says the work is weather dependent. In the event of inclement weather, the work will be postponed to a later date.

The following detours will be in effect during the closure:
