Ottawa wakes up to 7 cm of snow; expecting more snow, some sun throughout the week

By Dani-Elle Dubé

It was quite the welcome for 2021 as Ottawa woke up to a fresh dump of snow. It might be late coming in after the holiday's green Christmas, but it looks as if the snow is here to stay for the rest of the week.

According to the Ottawa International Airport's last update, 7 cm of snow accumulated overnight into Saturday, and Environment Canada warns it will be more by the day’s end.

The weather agency says snow at time will be heavy and end this morning, but will then turn cloudy.

The snowfall warning, however, has officially ended for the area.

Today’s high will be -2 C with a low of -11 C tonight with partly cloudy skies.

The greatest snowfall for January 2 was recorded in 1947 with slightly over 10 cm of snow.

Clouds will continue into Sunday with a high of -3 C.

Come nightfall, however, there’s a 60 per cent chance of flurries and a low of -4 C.

The sun will shine finally on Monday mixed with clouds and a high of -1 C.

The night will bring a low of -7 C and cloudy periods.

And Tuesday, it’s back to more snow and a high of -1 C.

The snow will end once night hits, but cloud periods and a low of -6 C are expected.

The sun will peak through clouds once again with a high of -2 C on Wednesday. The night will have a low of -7C and cloud periods.

And it looks like the mix of sun and clouds will stay around for Thursday with a high of -3 C. The night time, however, comes with a 60 per cent chance of flurries and a low of -8 C.
