One new COVID-19 death, 104 cases in Ottawa; city approaching 800 active cases

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is reporting another 104 cases of COVID-19 in the city along with another death linked to the virus.

The death brings Ottawa's pandemic death toll to 393.

Meanwhile, active cases of COVID-19 in the city are up to 789.

OPH says there are 14 residents in hospital with the novel coronavirus — six of whom are in intensive care.

The public health unit is now tracking 10 community outbreaks of COVID-19, three of which are newly reported as of Monday, January 4. One of the outbreaks stems from a social event, another from sports and recreation, while the other eight are all related to various workplaces.

OPH is reporting five new outbreaks at local healthcare facilities, including: Edgewood Care Centre (one patient case), Extendicare Laurier Manor (one staff case), Granite Ridge long-term care (one staff case), Portobello Retirement Residence (one staff case), Sisters of Charity retirement home (one staff case).

There are 29 ongoing outbreaks inside Ottawa healthcare facilities and one outbreak still linked to a school.

There have been 10,472 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa to date, of which 9,290 have been resolved.

Ontario is reporting 3,270 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday. The province is also reporting 55 new cases in eastern Ontario, two in the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark district and 11 in Renfrew County.
