Residents of Ottawa woke up to quite the winter scene as layers of sticky, heavy snow covered everything from roadways to rooftops.
According to Environment Canada, the city is expecting up to 30 cm of snow over the weekend, but by Saturday morning, the Ottawa International Airport reported 14 cm of snow had already fallen.
This means the snowfall warning from Environment Canada is still in effect for Ottawa.
This is the third snowiest January 16 on record — with 1904 being in first place with 20.3 cm.
However, this is the deepest day of snow so far this winter.
Come nighttime, though, periods of snow will continue with a low of zero.
As a result, a winter weather parking ban will be in effect for Ottawa starting at 7 p.m. and ending Sunday at 7 a.m.
Ottawa will wake up to more falling snow Sunday morning and the day will bring about a high of -1 C. The snow is expected to continue come nightfall, but there will be cloudy periods with a low of -8 C.
The sun will peak out from behind the clouds Monday, bringing a high of -7 C. The night will have cloudy periods with a low of -13 C.
Clouds will make an appearance for the rest of the week, starting on Tuesday, which will come with a high of -9 C. Flurries are expected at night with a low of -12 C.
Snow will continue Wednesday with a high of -8 C during the day, and a low of -13 C at night.
The snow won’t let up on Thursday as periods of the white stuff are forecasted with a high of -5 C. The night will be no different, but with a low of -8 C.
