The numbers are in and it looks like the Rideau Canal Skateway and the Sir John A. Mcdonald pathway were as busy as can be.
According to a report released Wednesday by the National Capital Commission, the SJAM Winter Trail counted an average of 828 visits to the site per day between March 2 to March 8.
That is about a 164 per cent jump compared to the same time last year, which saw an average of 314 visits per day between February 1 to March 31.
As for the Rideau Canal Skateway, it had 26 perfect skating days for its 51st season, which started on January 28 and closed on February 25.
This year, there were a total of 508,299 visitors throughout its operation, which works out to an average of about 19,550 visits per day.
That’s also about a 33 per cent increase compared to the 2019-2020 season, which reported about 381,000 visitors to the canal and averaged about 46,000 visitors a day.
However, when compared to its record-breaking 2018-2019 season that welcomed 1,493,524 visits to the canal, there’s is a drop in visitors by about 194 per cent.
